During the first quarter of the Iranian year 1404 (March 20–June 20, 2025), the Medical Logistics Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society achieved notable growth in its pharmaceutical and medical equipment services. With a 13.15% increase in prescription drug dispensing and a remarkable 41.67% rise in medical equipment sales compared to the same period in the previous year, the organization has taken a significant step forward in meeting the therapeutic needs of patients.
This
progress has been accompanied by the introduction of innovative services such
as the implementation of "Patient Companions" (Hamyar-e Bimar)
and the expansion of specialized products, further highlighting the
organization’s critical role within Iran’s healthcare system.
According
to a report from the Public Relations and International Affairs Department of
the Medical Logistics Organization, the number of prescriptions filled during
the first three months of 2025 at the Central and Tehranpars pharmacies reached
140,055 , representing a 13.15% increase compared to 123,779 prescriptions in
the same period of the previous year. This achievement reflects the
organization’s efforts to streamline prescription processing, strengthen
pharmaceutical supply chains, and enhance the quality of pharmaceutical
services.
In
parallel with these advancements, new services have been introduced to
facilitate patient access to care. The establishment of representatives from
Social Security Insurance and Health Insurance organizations in the afternoon
shift at the Central Pharmacy has enabled on-site resolution of
insurance-related issues, reducing both time and financial burdens for
patients.
Additionally,
the appointment of "Patient Companions" in pharmacies has simplified
the service reception process for elderly and disabled patients. The renovation
and redesign of the specialized section of the Central Pharmacy have also
enabled the delivery of more tailored and expert-level pharmaceutical services.
In the
field of medical equipment, the relevant unit within the Medical Logistics
Organization recorded a 41.67% increase in sales during the first quarter of
2025 compared to the same period last year, playing a key role in supplying
reputable therapeutic products.
By
expanding the number of internationally recognized colostomy bag brands from 3
to 10, improving the supply of wound care, burn treatment, and diabetes-related
equipment, and offering a wider range of essential accessories, the
organization has significantly enhanced both the variety and quality of
available products.
Moreover,
the provision of specialized equipment—such as chemotherapy infusion pumps and
ports—and the expansion of home care services (Homecare) through
essential devices like sphygmomanometers, thermometers, and blood glucose
monitors have facilitated patient access to standardized medical tools.
Dr.
Shahnesaz, Managing Director of the Medical Logistics Organization, emphasized
the humanitarian mission of the Red Crescent in the health sector, stating:
"These initiatives are carried out with the aim of providing better and
easier access to healthcare services for the general public, particularly
vulnerable groups. The Medical Logistics Organization remains committed to
strengthening its role within the national healthcare system."
