In line with its humanitarian mission, the Medical Procurement Organization of the Iranian Red Crescent Society has adopted innovative strategies in collaboration with pharmaceutical manufacturers and suppliers, making significant strides toward strengthening national medicine reserves, diversifying its pharmaceutical portfolio, and increasing the availability of quota-based medicines.
According to the MPO’s Public Relations and
International Affairs Office, focused efforts to expand engagement with
producers and suppliers have led to the establishment of strategic reserves and
secured the sustainable provision of quota-based, nationally scarce, and plan-allocated medicines.
As part of this initiative, the number of quota-based
medicines available across Red Crescent pharmacies has grown substantially.
General and single-prescription drugs that were previously absent from the
organization’s pharmaceutical inventory are now accessible through an expanded
portfolio—supporting broader treatment coverage and promoting equitable access
to essential medicines for all segments of society.
Furthermore, through collaboration with the Food and Drug
Administration of the Ministry of Health, as well as Iran and Shahid Beheshti
Universities of Medical Sciences, the Medical Procurement Organization has
successfully extended the list of approved quota-based medications the Medical

These collective efforts reflect the Organization’s
enduring commitment to the humanitarian objectives of the Iranian Red Crescent

the medicine supply chain.
