In a specialized meeting held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, attended by Dr. Mohammadreza Shanehsaz, Managing Director of the Medical Procurement Organization, along with senior headquarters officials, representatives from the Health, Treatment, and Rehabilitation Department of the Iranian Red Crescent Society were also present to coordinate the implementation of the strategic drug stockpiling project.
According to the Public Relations and
International Affairs Unit of the Medical Procurement Organization, the session
focused on drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the nationwide
execution of the drug stockpiling initiative. Responsibilities of the relevant
entities—including the Medical Procurement Organization, the Food and Drug
Administration, and provincial branches of the Red Crescent—were delineated.
Several clauses of the operational directive were agreed upon and will be
formally approved by the Iranian Red Crescent Society before being communicated
to provincial offices.
As per the decisions made during the meeting,
data regarding the capacity and condition of provincial pharmaceutical
warehouses will be collected. The Iranian Red Crescent Society will be
responsible for planning and allocating the necessary resources for the
renovation of these facilities. Meanwhile, the Medical Procurement Organization
will oversee the implementation process and evaluate the project's progress
across provinces.
This meeting marks a significant step toward
strengthening the country’s pharmaceutical infrastructure and enhancing
preparedness for emergency situations.
