The process of registering, reviewing, and delivering single-prescription medicines is implemented nationwide in a systematic manner and in accordance with the regulations of the Food and Drug Organization. This process has been designed and pursued with the aim of facilitating patient access to vital medicines, reducing costs, ensuring legal importation, guaranteeing authenticity and higher quality of medicines, and shortening the time required for patients to obtain them.
According
to the Public Relations and International Affairs Unit of the Red Crescent
Medical Procurement Organization, under the official procedure, patients first
visit Red Crescent pharmacies in Tehran and other provinces, where their
prescriptions are reviewed by the responsible pharmacist in the IDL system of
the Food and Drug Organization. If the required medicine is classified as
single-prescription, the attending physician must complete the two-page request
form for single-prescription medicine, after which the patient must register in
the Service Desk system of the Food and Drug Organization at khedmat.fda.gov.ir and upload the necessary
documents along with the request form.
Once
all documents are submitted, the patient’s file is sent through the Food and
Drug Organization system to the Article 10 Committee for evaluation. If the
request is rejected, the file is closed; if approved, the patient’s file is
referred to the Single-Prescription Unit of the Red Crescent Medical
Procurement Organization. This unit first places an order with the supplying
company and then arranges for the allocation and delivery of the medicine to
the nearest Red Crescent pharmacy to the patient’s residence. After the
medicine arrives at the pharmacy, it is delivered to the patient following
technical checks.
For
frequently requested single-prescription medicines already included in the
supply cycle, after the patient’s visit and prescription review in the IDL
system, the case is presented to the Article 10 Committee, and upon approval,
the supply and delivery process is carried out directly through coordination
with the Single-Prescription Unit of the Medical Procurement Organization,
ensuring delivery from the nearest Red Crescent pharmacy accessible to the
patient.
This
process is implemented under the supervision of the Single-Prescription Unit of
the Medical Procurement Organization and in close cooperation with the Food and
Drug Organization. By standardizing the steps, it enables patients to access
vital medicines with greater speed, accuracy, and quality.
