The Medical Procurement Organization of the Red Crescent Society, utilizing a comprehensive network of production, supply, and distribution and with the aim of safeguarding public health and fulfilling its humanitarian mission, has formulated and implemented special macro and operational strategies to prevent any disruption in the supply chain of rare medicines and medical necessities.
According to the report by the Public Relations
and International Affairs Unit of the Medical Procurement Organization, this
organization, as the executive arm of the health system and strategic partner
of the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education, in the current
conditions of the country, relying on its operational capacities and in line
with fulfilling its governance role in the supply and distribution of special
and single-prescription medicines, has employed all its capabilities for the
uninterrupted continuity of the service delivery chain. In this framework, the
continuous and sustainable supply of medicine and the development of the
portfolio of pharmaceutical products and medical necessities is pursued as one
of the strategic priorities of this entity, and optimal resource management and
effective interaction with specialized institutions have provided the ground
for desirable responsiveness to patients' needs in sensitive conditions.
The Medical Procurement Organization, having
five subsidiary companies and benefiting from two specialized pharmacies, has
prioritized synergy between production and distribution sectors in its
programs. In this regard, the organization's macro policies are designed in
specialized platforms and think tanks so that, while continuously monitoring
the market and precisely tracking medicine reserves in the "Situation
Room," any pharmaceutical need is identified in the shortest possible time
and the path for its supply is paved. Holding meetings of the Council of
Managers to align the policies of subsidiary companies and forming specialized
committees with international and domestic suppliers is also carried out with
the aim of promoting financial transparency and accelerating bilateral
cooperation processes. Additionally, the formation of crisis management and
receivables collection committees has provided a platform for decisions to be
made quickly, coordinately, and based on existing realities in sensitive conditions.
In the area of supply, the implementation of
aggregate purchasing policies and targeted negotiations with suppliers and
distribution companies has yielded significant achievements. These measures, in
addition to reducing finished costs and improving pharmacy productivity, have
helped optimize health system costs and strengthened the organization's
financial sustainability. Improving supply processes and re-engineering the
supply chain has also been implemented with the aim of reducing risks and
guaranteeing patients' access to vital medicines, and extensive cooperation
with the Food and Drug Organization has strengthened the supply network and
facilitated the development of the product portfolio. In this path, specialized
units such as the Commercial Affairs Department have also played their
complementary role in achieving the organization's macro objectives.
The Medical Procurement Organization, using the
capacity of single-prescription and emergency importing companies, through
order in processes, timely payment, and accountability, has been able to be a
credible and reliable brand for importers; both financially and in the sense
that medicine reaches the actual consumer on time and through the legal
channel. This organization, with transparent performance, has been able to be
the executive arm and trustee of the Food and Drug Organization in normal and
crisis conditions and is pursuing the development of the pharmaceutical
portfolio by obtaining the necessary permits from the Food and Drug
Organization.
This organization, focusing on economic
management, pharmaceutical portfolio development, and direct support for
patients, has taken effective steps toward improving pharmaceutical services,
ensuring financial sustainability, and increasing operational efficiency. The
totality of these measures, carried out within the framework of the
humanitarian objectives of the Red Crescent Society and in interaction with the
Ministry of Health and other relevant institutions, has made a significant
contribution to the strength of the country's health system and the reduction
of patients' concerns. This operational approach is pursued with the aim of
creating peace of mind for patients and reducing concerns related to the supply
of vital medicines and medical equipment across the country, and its
continuation at various levels of the organization, subsidiary companies, and
specialized pharmacies is on the agenda.
